Clothing Label - and they say Americans have no sense of humour.
This link was suggested to me by my old friend Simon. He did a bit of background sleuthing on the story and the results can be seen on his own blog Pot of George.

Pandamania - this is on the same principle as Cow Parade only this time - and I love this bit - with PANDAS.
150 creatively painted Panda sculptures (and more bad Panda puns than you could shake a bamboo stick at) are on display in Washington DC until September 2004.
"Pandamania is all about doing what Pandas do best. Surprise you, lift your spirits, make you smile and bring something special to your day."
My Particular favourites:
William Shakesbeare
Ti-bet Your Life
The Last Samurai Panda
The Giant Pandarus
Sightseeing-DC Style
RoboPanda
Poppy Panda
Pandy Warhol
Pandillusion
Pandela Anderson (this one is wild!)
Pandalusia
PandaGold (this one looks like Pooh)
Panda of the Opera
Panda in Tiger's Clothing
Honey Pot Panda
Emperor P'ing
DC Tree Panda
Cleopandra
Booted(in the UK this would be "Clamped")
Bear to the Bone
and finally (it's inspired):
Bearra Cotta Warrior

Amazon.co.uk: Books: Untitled Discworld Novel 29 - you have to admire PTerry's fans. No sooner has Amazon put up an advance notice of his next novel (due in April 2005), than one of them has written a review for it.

I've recently found a lot of site which offer an "Image of the Day" link that you can paste into your own sites. Like this:
This is from Rum and Monkey a strange little site which, among other articles, also offers the tasteless but very funny Literature for the Imminently Dead

Ginger is back.
I was in the British Museum last week and discovered that 'Ginger' (at 5,000 years old, their oldest mummy) is back on display following a disappearance while the Egyptian rooms were being rearranged for several months last year.
Ginger's nickname comes from the colour of his hair - which amazingly you can see discern. We'll probably never know what his real name was but to school children for the last 104 years he has been one of their enduring memories of the Museum.
To be honest, I'm not entirely comfortable with the notion of displaying corpses, even for educational purposes. There's something ghoulishly close to voyeurism about it. However, these guys went through the whole process of getting mummified in order to achieve immortality and I guess now, in an odd way they've got it.

Tower Bridge Exhibition - I've lived in London for most of my life but today was the first time I ever saw Tower Bridge raised. I'd assumed that this was because it's something that doesn't happen often. However from this schedule of Bridge lifts it seems like it happens pretty regularly.

5ives - following on the from the Two Things site, this is a blogger who likes to compile lists of Five Things (must be inflation). Fortunately the longer lists allow more scope for a degree of weirdness.

Telegraph | News | D-Day 1899 and President Denzel Washington is leading liberation of New Zealand from the Nazi's: "It is 1899 and Denzel Washington, the American president, orders Anne Frank and her troops to storm the beaches of Nazi-occupied New Zealand.
This may not be how you remember D-Day but for a worrying number of Britain's children this is the confused scenario they associate with the events of June 6, 1944."
Chris Grayling, the shadow education minister, said: "These are really very recent events that have shaped the lives of all of us.
"It is a real worry that so few children seem to know the basics of what happened during the Second World War. We must not allow this to continue."
That's an interesting comment from the Tories given that, while in power, it was they who downgraded the importance of teaching history in UK schools.

Peace Mala - a group of schoolchildren from my parents' home town (at my mother's old school in fact) have come up with a novel way for children to help encourage religious tolerance. If you have children or are responsible for educating any - this is definitely one project worth trying.

American homeland security - I read this article over the weekend. Forget all the hypothetical scenarios that liberals paint regarding the erosion of civil liberties in the US. This really happened. I'm not a journalist but I've abandonned any plans to visit the US for the foreseeable future. If this is how they treat writers, heaven knows how they treat regular folk with no public voice.
Thinking of the quote from Samuel Johnson, I'm starting to think that the "Patriot" Act should be more accurately renamed as "Last Refuge of a Scoundrel" Act. Labels: fuckwittery

For one reason or another, I've made several visits to Greenwich recently. It's a fascinating place and, since it's not in Central London, it doesn't get overrun by tourists until the very height of the season. Best of all, with the exception of the Cutty Sark, everything - the Maritime Museum, the Observatory, the Painted Hall and Chapel and The Queen's House - is free.
The Thames is still a key highway into London but nowhere near as important as it once was. I was fascinated by this painting by Johannes Vorsterman " Greenwich and London from One Tree Hill ". In those days you could see all the way up the river into the City (no multi-story buildings) and it looks like the maritime equivalent of the M25.
You can see the painting in a bit more detail here.

Chinese symbols - if like me you're always a bit dubious of those t-shirts and bads with iconographs in Chinese that claim to be saying "love" and "peace" - this is the place to doulbe check.
I suspect that a lot of them really say "Sucker" or "Idiot"
