Mostly the latter.

Weight Watchers recipe cards, circa 1974 - the bastard lovechild of boredom and a scanner. What worries me most of all is that I'm pretty sure I've seen the originals of these before....probably in 1974.

Quest for the Crown one of the [ahem] 'classic' video games.

I'm just wondering how long you will last before you realise you've been suckered by a very good spoof.

After Defeat, Campaigner for 'Free Burma' Begins Anew - I'm on one of my periodic "save the world" missions right now. This is an interview with one of my oldest college friends. Everyone talks about it when they graduate but he's one of the few people I know who is really 'making a difference'.

Vision Aid Overseas - imagine this, a charity run by opticians which collects old glasses, trains volunteer prison inmates to work out the prescription, gets its member to give up their vacations to take the glasses out to Africa and run eye-clinics for the locals and collects air miles to pay for their transport.

Worth a visit eh?

(And my cousin is one of the founders).

Big Whale on a Lorry - this appears to have begun as one man's attempt to prove he wasn't going mad by finding other people who had witnessed a dead whale exhibited around the UK in the 1950's.

He found witnesses....tons of them.

channel4.com - Bo'Selecta! The Bear Story - let's get one thing straight from the start. I don't like watching Avid Merrion; he makes my skin creep.

However, there is one little character on his show who merits a mention. He's funny the first time you see him. Don't bother wathcing him more than once (it's a one-gag routine) and DEFINITELY don't let the kids see it.

Oh, and he's a bear.

Area 51 Lab v.3 :: Creativit? Consulenza Tecnologia - first time I've ever featured a non-English language site here. And I don't even speak a word of Italian beyond "Soprano". However, wait for the Flash to load near the top of the page and then go play with "characterbuilder" - it's a fun little time-waster.

Marbles Reunited - I'm in two minds about the Elgin Marbles. On the one hand we did nick them, no question. But on the other hand, having spent a lot of time admiring them in the British Museum, I'd really miss that horse's head!

Fortunately this site has no such qualms, it's all in favour of doing the right thing and giving them back. It also points out that Elgin did not grab all of the marble peices with the result that some of the figures are actually split between London and Athens (eg. head in the UK, torso in Greece). It offers a first chance to see the various bits reunited with photos of the various elements juxtaposed to show how they should look.

Wellinghall - The films of LoTR are all very well but the *definitive* version of the trilogy was produced by the BBC as a 13-hour radio drama about 20 years ago (although even they had to leave out Tom Bombadil). This site is pretty ambitious and not yet finished but the information that's there already is pretty impressive.

HTBY: How to: bathe a cat - "Get a mesh bag used for washing lingerie, insert 1 cat. Once the cat cannot flail about it will relax and just take it. Absorb cat hate for a few days, enjoy."

The rest of the site is in a similar vein. Someone had the quite sensible idea of soliciting user-written explanations of how to perform certain tasks. The responses they seem to be getting are not quite in the spirit intended - but hugely entertaining nonetheless (see also - "How to Bathe a Hampster")

Playstation robot TV ad - sorry, couldn't resist one last oddball. Playstation have been running some very quirky adverts in the UK recently. Let's be clear here; I don't own a playstation nor do I play one on TV - however I do like this weird cute little advert.
