Big Brother's Extremely Little Brother - just from the advance publicity, this year's Big Brother looks as though it's going to be pretty crap. So I'm not going to be watching it. My only regret is that this means I won;t get too many of the jokes on this site.

That's a pity, 'cos it's usually hysterical.

We Made Out In A Tree And This Old Guy Sat And Watched Us - "This site is dedicated to the English language, that complex tongue spoken by a large chunk of the world's population and by several communities in the American South.

Specifically, it's dedicated to unusual quotes, strange statements, bad writing and other oddities of the language. Things that are funny because of the specific choice of words. Things that sound great because of the context, or that sound even better when given no context at all. (Like the name of the site, for example.) "

Deep Impact: Amateur Observers: Where is Tempel 1? - Tempel 1 is a comet. Deep Impact is a probe which NASA plan to crash into it (friendly eh?). This page will help you to locate the comet's position at any given time.

Space probes have always carried some kind of message from Earth. Normally it's been the cosmic equivalent of "if found please return to...". However, over the last couple of years many of them have also included CDs containing lists of names submitted via the project web site (I see it as a shopping list for any aliens who want to get into the abduction business). Deep Impact has a similar plan.

I seem to have a knack of jinxing these things since I signed up to all the Mars probes that promptly went AWOL. However, in this case I think I'm helping.

Celebrity Battles.com - this is interesting not so much for the outcomes of the votes on various battles but for the categories of battles - "Who is more evil", "Who is the dumber political figure" (well I think we can all guess who'll win the league on that one) and "Who is more likely to get arrested?".

The pairings themselves are pretty surreal too - Rasputin vs Jerry Springer????

ageproject - aka "guess my age". I don't know if the people who submit their photos to this site are monumental egotists or just plain naive.

The nice part is that, having guessed at their age, the site tells you their real age and what the average guess was. So I had a lot of fun pushing up the average by guessing the ages of anyone posting "I Love Me" photos as around 120.

However, I think this guy has the right idea.

Mike Stanfill, Private Hand - The Infinite Cat Project - the end of the CAT scan project (use your imaginations) left a void in the market for weird cat-interacting-with-machines sites. This has now been filled by The Infinite Cat project.

Step 1. Put picture of cat on screen
Step 2. Get own cat to look at picture
Step 3. Take a photo
Step 4. Put it on the screen
Step 5. go to step 2 and continue

I've noticed that you rarely see sites like this using dogs as their subjects. I suspect this is because A) Dogs are not smart and it's too easy to mock them. B) Cats are generally snotty and therefore it's far more fun to make them look daft whenever possible.

And in this particualr case, there's too great a danger that a dog would try to lick the screen...

Church of Fools - a neat idea from the Ship of Fools people which has let itself down a bit in the last few days. The Methodist Church has decided to setup a virtual place of worship allowing visitors to roam about an online Church using avatars. They are also encouraged to sit and pray. Periodically, a real-life minister is recruited to host a service from the pulpit. So far so good. It's a nice idea.

Unfortunately following complaints about abuse, the chat functions have had to be curtailed, profanity filters installed, and some areas of the church closed to the public.

Let's see. The Methodist Church want a 3-D virtual church so they go to the people who did the 3-D virtual Osbournes (does Black Sabbath mean nothing to them???) and give their new site a name similar to the creators' company - and then they discover that this is attracting an audience that tends to be a bit profane. WHAT DID THEY EXPECT?!?!?!?!?!?
